There are lots of things that are good to have in your car in case of emergencies. Because of kids and for regular life. Here are a few ideas of things you might want in your car.
Everyday Needs:
These are usually in my glove compartment or side door holders with easy access. Tweezers, nail clippers, a first-aid kit (with child and adult IBuprofen), pen and paper, extra glasses, lotion, water bottles, a couple of small trash bags, a small towel for spills, hand sanitizer, and a bunch of extra masks. When I had kids in diapers I always kept a couple of those in the car, along with a bag of wipes (which we still have in there).
Seasonal Items:
In summer I like to have sunblock, bug spray, sting remover, and a park blanket. For winter I have gloves, ice melt, a folding shovel, an emergency blanket, and my ice scraper
Real Emergency:
We keep these things in an extra backpack in the trunk. Rope, flares, jumper cables, a blanket, pocket knife, flashlights (with the batteries separate so they don’t corrode), some cash, work gloves, puncture seal, random tools, poncho, fire extinguisher, tow rope, emergency granola bars, a Go Girl (google it if you don’t know what this is).
We also have two extra shirts and socks in case someone gets wet or filthy. I think we still have some Depends in there as well. We got them as a gag gift but thought, “Hey, we go on a lot of long car trips. It might come in handy.”
Think about you and your family’s needs and what situations might run into and what would be really helpful for you to have with you. The things we need in our cars will change as we change. What else do you have in your car for emergencies (big and small) and how do you organize it? My husband keeps a box of sports equipment in this car. He’s always ready to have fun.
