Categorizing and Rearranging

Categorizing and rearranging things will help your space be more organized and efficient.

In this garage, we decluttered a bit, but most of the stuff stayed.  Items had been set on the shelves at random (we all do it) so we put everything into categories.  We also removed bulky packaging and items to be donated. Read more about bulky packaging here.

Before: Garage Shelves

Overflow pantry items and paper goods went next to the door that goes into the house so they are easy to grab.  We were also able to get the garden supplies off the floor and on shelves. For more details about zones read here.

After: Garage Shelves

Categorizing similar items together keeps things from getting lost.  You know exactly where to look to find things and when you know where things are, you use them more.

Note: Sometimes you have to empty the space before you can see where things should go. Otherwise, your brain tries to fit things in instead of arranging for efficiency.
