Often we have so much that we can’t even find what we want to use. This client wanted a better way to store her DVDs so that she could actually find what she was looking for. When we have less we can enjoy it more.
I love this quote from Gretchen Rubin’s book Outer Order, Inner Calm, “Having less often leads us to use our things more often and with more enjoyment because we’re not fighting our way through unwanted stuff.”
We went through this client’s DVD collection. They had three shelves stacked two rows deep and often stacked on top of each other. Of course, I forgot to take a ‘Before’ picture (ugh, I just got so excited to start). We pulled everything out and sorted it by his, hers, and kids. We left his pile alone because he wasn’t there to make decisions. Then we went through her pile and the kid’s pile and donated anything they didn’t want/need anymore.
Here’s the bin of movies she donated!
We put the DVDs they are keeping in DVD storage cases. One for kids and one for her. Now she has three empty shelves and it’s SO much easier to find a specific movie when she wants to watch one.
Our local recycling center has a program where plastics can be recycled if you put them in a specific orange bag. So we were able to recycle all the extra DVD cases.
