I feel like most of the organizing I do in my home is maintaining the hard work I’ve already done. If it takes less than 20 steps or 2 minutes to fix, take the time to create order in your space. The simple habit of cleaning/organizing as you go will keep areas from becoming overwhelming.
- Hang up the shirt.
- Put that paper where it belongs.
- Chuck the scissors that won’t cut right.
- Open the mail and make a decision about it.
- Donate the shorts that always end up in the back of the drawer/closet.
Developing these habits is crucial to creating and maintaining an organized home. If something is continually getting messed up, then something needs to change.
What can you add? A container to coral frequently used items?
What can you take away? Move something to another location to limit how much a certain area contains.
Really try to get at the root of the problem and see if you can address it directly. Don’t be afraid to change things up. It often takes some tweaking before you get something that works for you.
Remember:
Be intentional about what you bring into your home. The more you have, the more you have to deal with it.
