When you’re organizing a playroom you want to consider how your kids play. What are they interested in? How well do they clean up?
- Are they currently drawn to a certain type of toy?
- Do they combine lots of different kinds of toys when they play?
- Or do they stick to one category of toy when they play?
- Do they like options or do options make them overwhelmed?
- Are there toys that are no longer interesting to them?
- Do they have toys that are too old or too young for them?
The way you answer these questions will help you prioritize which toys are out and available, which can be packed up for a later time, and which toys can be donated.
Nerf Guns
Nerf guns are a pain to organize because they are often big and bulky. This client had Nerf bows so we hung them on command hooks on the wall. If they find that those aren’t working, they can put them in a bin on the floor. Some people use a pegboard and hook system on a wall, behind the door organizers, or tall bins/baskets.
Whatever you decide, make sure it’s easy for kids to clean up. Label where things go with words or pictures. If kids can’t clean up then try reducing the number of available toys until they can clean up without getting overwhelmed.
