Rehome Items (Putting Them Were they Belong)

When you are walking through your house and find something that goes somewhere else, rehome it, i.e. put it where it belongs.  Even if there’s no space where it belongs, put it there anyway.  It’s ok if the proper home is not organized or too full.  You can get to that later.

Before you can effectively purge and organize you need to see what you have.  Bring everything that belongs in your space together.  This gathering can take time.  And yes, you will probably find more things that need to go in that space later.  The most important thing is to start the process.

Once you have everything that should go in a certain location then it’s easier to organize. The more you can gather in one place the easier it is to see what you have and how to make it fit nicely.

Challenge: ReHome 10 things today.

Grab a laundry basket and pick a room.  Grab all the things that don’t belong there and put them where they do belong.  Moving from one room to the next.  You don’t have to organize, just get things where they belong so that it’s easier to organize later.

Hint: laundry room, mudroom, and kitchen often have the most things in them that belong somewhere else.
